ICYMI: Elden Ring is Getting a Movie Adaptation

Raptor4790 | 05/07/2026

Big news for us, Tarnished! The award-winning Elden Ring is getting an adaptation, and the production is already underway. A24 had officially revealed the cast of their most ambitious project yet, while leaks continue to spread across social media. With a game as massive and beloved as Elden Ring, it’s not unusual to see fans of the game having different expectations on what the adaptation should be like.

As a player myself, I also have questions about which ending the adaptation will take. Will we pursue Ranni’s ending? Will we stay true to the Golden Order? Or will we descend into madness as the new Lord of the Frenzied Flame?

As FromSoftware’s biggest open‑world game to date, Elden Ring has sold over 30 million copies worldwide since its 2022 launch. Set in the breathtaking Lands Between (remember the feeling when you first opened that door?), the game captivated players with its environmental storytelling, dense lore, and more flexible approach to Soulsborne combat. Some would even argue it’s the most approachable entry in FromSoftware’s notoriously challenging list of masterpieces, drawing in plenty of players who had never touched a Soulslike before.

Granted, many bosses are still extremely tough to beat (looking at you, Margit), especially due to their infamous delayed attacks. However, Elden Ring introduced player‑friendly systems never seen before in the Soulsborne franchise, such as spirit summons and the widespread use of the Stake of Marika, which raises an interesting question for A24: how will the death mechanics be portrayed in the movie?

Gameplay, however, is only half the challenge. The lore of Elden Ring can also be difficult to fully grasp, as players mainly piece together the events of the Shattering through item descriptions collected over time. Because of the game’s deep and fragmented storytelling, it’s widely speculated that the movie will be set just before the Shattering, especially after leaked images surfaced showing Marika with both of her braids intact, as well as a bustling market that wouldn’t exist in the post‑Shattering Lands Between.

With A24 confirming that Elden Ring is set to release on March 3, 2028, the studio also revealed a list of stars involved in the project. Here are some of the notable names set to appear in the movie:

Nick Offerman
You’ve probably seen him everywhere by now, even if you never searched for him. He’s best known as Ron Swanson in Parks and Recreation, appeared in Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning, and played as Bill in The Last of Us TV series.

Cailee Spaeny
Spaeny has been steadily rising in recent years, with roles in Bad Times at the El Royale, Civil War, and most recently starring in Alien: Romulus.

Kit Connor
Gamers might recognize Connor from A Plague Tale: Requiem as Lucas, along with voice work in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Outside of games, he is widely known for his role in Heartstopper.

Jonathan Pryce
A veteran actor with a massive range, Pryce is remembered by many as the High Sparrow in Game of Thrones, Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio in The Two Popes, and Governor Weatherby Swann in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, to name a few!

Peter Serafinowicz
Another standout name, Serafinowicz famously voiced Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I and starred as The Tick. Soulsborne fans may also recognize his voice as Mild‑Mannered Pate in Dark Souls II, giving him a direct connection to FromSoftware’s universe.

The cast is rounded out by seasoned actors, including Tom Burke, Ben Whishaw, Sonoya Mizuno, Ruby Cruz, Emma Laird, Jefferson Hall, and more. Considering the scale of Elden Ring, it’s likely more names will be revealed as production continues.

What do you think about the announcement so far? Do you have any theories on what the movie will focus on? Feel free to drop your thoughts in the comments~
