PUBG new map – all the latest details on the upcoming snow map

  • 39

Just as we were getting to know the 8x8km island map of Erangel and its desert-themed counterpart Miramar, we now have heaps of new PUBG maps to get excited about. From the recently released jungle map of Sanhok, a 4x4km jungle map designed for constant fighting, to a new snow PUBG map called Dihor Otok, there’s at least one killing field on the horizon. To help keep you updated on all of the PUBG new maps, we have assembled this roundup of everything we know about all the upcoming battlegrounds.

One of PUBG’s best features is its range of colossal maps – they are big enough to cater to different playstyles and feature an unmatched variety of combat scenarios for would-be military tacticians to overcome. However, the coming PUBG new map is very different: the snow map appears to be adding trackable footsteps to battle royale.

A teaser trailer for the winter-themed map was shown off at E3 2018, but only revealed that players would be able to track footprints on it. A recent datamine has revealed a great deal more information on the upcoming snow map, which we’ll dig into below.

PUBG SNOW MAP (DIHOR OTOK)

A recent datamine has unearthed heaps of detail on the new PUBG map, including a name, possible vehicles, and key buildings. The new snow map is 8x8km in size and is a mountainous island covered in snow called Dihor Otok. This information was discovered in a huge datamine, which also produced textures and models for buildings that would appear across the map, like a dino park, rocket, various castles, and plenty of Brick Gothic town houses. More importantly, the datamine also contains an image of the map, which you can check out below.

It also looks like we’ll have a few new toys to play with on the new PUBG map: C4 and two new vehicles. The C4 will make for some incredibly devious plays in the new setting, while a Beetle and Z130 flatbed truck were also spotted in the files, meaning that hopefully we will be able to crash around snowy Dihor Otok in a lorry.

Dihor Otok has also been recreated using in-game files from a separate datamine. Redditor allthenewsisgoodnews has posted a 3D flyover of the PUBG new map that you can watch below. It looks like the hot spots on this map will be Cosmodrome, Castle, Cement Factory, and Frozen Lake.

A PUBG E3 2018 trailer showed off a glimpse of the upcoming PUBG snow map and suggested we would be able to track enemy footprints across the map. The snippet of footage suggests that the new PUBG map will be set in winter or high up in a mountain. Either way, we know that the PUBG snow map size will be “somewhere in between” that of Miramar and Sanhok – that’s 8x8km and 4x4km, respectively. Interestingly, the aforementioned PUBG roadmap says that the new PUBG map will be 8x8km, so perhaps plans have changed or PUBG Corp. are talking about two separate upcoming PUBG maps.

Only one key building has been mentioned: a massive, Soviet-era cosmodrome. Initially, Mr Unknown himself (or Brendan Greene, if you prefer) revealed to us that the cosmodrome would feature several massive buildings full of loot, but that the team have had to scale down their ambitions.

“I see [a level designer] work on the cosmodrome, and the guy who is working on the buildings – the first round of buildings he did were massive. You could host two or three whole battle royales within these buildings. They had 50 floors, they were gigantic, but they made the area look super cool. We did have to cut them down and make them more manageable so people did not run into a building and go ‘Fuck’. So much loot, so little time.”

Greene was keen to emphasise that “it is still very early” and the maps are continually changing. “We are still blocking out where towns will be, what the various points of interest will be. ”
