Morzeey’s Top 5 Game Announcements!

Wow!! What a treat we gamers had this last weekend with an extremely solid spread of game reveals, release date announcements, DLC announcements, new PC ports - shoutout God of War: Ragnarok but where is Bloodborne, Sony?! Even games returning back home to Steam – shoutout Dark and Darker!

From the Summer Games Fest to the Future Games Fest to IGN Live, I'm grabbing a few of my personal favorites from all of them to highlight here! Come come come – take my hand and let’s take a look at what we have in store for us for the rest of this year and even into the next!

1. Black Myth: Wukong

Black Myth: Wukong has been on my list for a while now, admittedly. I am a huge soulslike fan and will play every single one that I can with no exception! Especially now that we have a release date set for August 20th of this year (note: trailers say 20th, Steam Page says the 19th). The game looks incredible in my book by all standards – looks, lore and levels (gameplay) baby, 10/10!

The story being inspired by the famous Chinese literary work: Journey to the West, depicts a classic character from Chinese folklore: Sun Wukong! The literary work being a pilgrimage of a monk and his protectors, I am intrigued to see how much the literary work translates into the game. Regardless I extremely stoked to jump into this one, not only for my love of heart-exploding soulslike combat, but also to learn and appreciate Chinese mythology! Mark your calendars, friends, this one is sure to be a doozy!

2. Gears of War: E-Day

Wow! Something I was not expecting was a Gears of War announcement! Let me know in the comments if you are a beloved fan of this franchise, because I am right there with you! This franchise has been a gold star in my book since the OG Gears 1, to Gears 3 when I cried playing the story – if you know you know – to even the latest installments chainsawing noobs online.

Gears always has an incredible story that goes along with the bloody gameplay, and I sure hope this one lives up to the hype! In the announce trailer above, we see our beloved giga-chad hero, Marcus Fenix, duking it out with the classic looking grunt from the grub-eating Locust! For a second, I was worried for our collective Cog-Dad getting tossed around a bit, but he pulled through. We get a look at the scene: a locust-ridden city with gaping holes spewing more Locust, death and explosions, and gore in true Gears fashion. Everything I didn’t know I needed until now!

We don’t have a specific release date for this one yet, but keep your eyes peeled for more information by the end of the year!

3. Fable

OH EM GEE!! A new Fable trailer!? What an absolute heater! Fable was probably one of my favorite gaming experiences as a young lad mashing an Xbox controller. I played I and II and can still remember when I put on the mask and everyone ran away from me in town – shoutout to Jack of Blades!

Now, that was years ago. This new Fable looks to be just as amazing as an RPG can get, playing on the storyline from the deepest corners of my heart and Albion itself! The Steam Page says, “A new beginning for the legendary franchise”. While the trailer alludes to the iconic RPG-esque play on the “choices heroes make” nodding at the core of the old legendary titles  – PLEASE let me have a good/evil meter in this one Playground Games, please!

All we know for now is this juicy 4k trailer that tells us we can expect the new Fable in 2025! Add it to the list of a defining year in gaming!

4. Dune: Awakening

MUA’DIB!!! Okay fellow gamers, at this point you probably think I'm obsessed with soulslike, which I am, but my first love goes to MMOs. I am a huge fan of the Dune books and movies, and I am stoked for this survival-craftingish (?) MMO! All my fingers and toes are crossed; I hope we get steady servers and an MMO gameplay loop that only grips and leaves you wanting more and more and more!

I am extremely eager to see how developers Funcom fill this barren space with things players can explore, collect, and fight! Will I be able to ride Shai-Hulud!? Can I become a God Emporer!? All great questions that will have to wait to be answered because we don’t have a release date quite yet. The newest official trailer has our ears perked with Paul Atreides talking visions and different timelines which seems to really set the narrative direction of the game to allow for the variance of players like you and me!

Word on the street is that an Early Access release is coming for Dune sometime later this year, so keep those eyes free of Spice!

5. Skate.

Great news everyone! They are still working on it! We got a glimpse of what is to come for the dope Skate. franchise. From announcements in 2020 and 2021, EA has been a bit quiet about the upcoming Skate. title! But alas! This last weekend we got a new video featuring Tim Robinson from the corpo in the Skate. universe, M Corp!

With the presumption that the city is abandoned (no knobs!), and skaters can go anywhere! The teams at EA are bringing this to the next level with player connectivity than ever before with ambitions of making the new Skate. a live-service game! The team appears to be setting the building blocks for more content to come and that gets me super stoked to jump into this one with friends when the time comes.

The trailer ultimate showcases that console playtests are coming this Fall 2024! Which would lead me to believe we are looking for a mid 2025 release.

Skate. Gameplay Information

And there you have it! There were a ton of game announcements this last weekend and these were some of my favorites! I could have made this article to 10 because there were so many good ones! What were your favorite announcements? What games are you looking forward to? Let’s chat about it!

Looks like 'Gears of War: E-Day Steam Page' leading to Black Myth Wukong.

Planetary

was hoping for a "master gears collection" of sorts but I'll take a prequel

Meh. Graphics don't make good gameplay. Call me when these big studios actually try to be innovative instead of hyping on cinematics. Maybe they should just make animated movies instead of games.
