Dead Island 2 Introduces Life Insurance Package
After its memorable announcement at E3 2014, it’s no surprise that Deep Silver has found a way to make headlines with Dambuster Studio’s Dead Island 2 once again. In a unique marketing venture for the release, the UK-based life insurance company, DeadHappy, is offering an exclusive and apocalypse-practical opportunity! The video promo (which appears to be an ad within the world of Dead Island 2) states that those who purchase this policy will be provided a metal coffin and buried in cement. If the unthinkable should occur and your zombie form manages to escape, don’t fret! Their “No Return Guarantee” provides a dedicated team to “take care of business.” In the actual written copy below, the funeral policy is a bit vaguer with the funeral logistics, simply stating they can ensure “no un-wanted comebacks” but does say that your loved ones are flown to the real LA to celebrate your life with a zombie cocktail fueled wake in your honor.
This begs the question, is it legitimate? The answer appears to be yes -but not legally binding. In a (presumably obligatory) note they add; “All of our Deathwishes are exactly that - wishes only. We can’t force anyone to activate them (legally), but at least they know what you want in life (and death).” But it does appear to be a purchasable package at the price of £8,000. DeadHappy’s website offers a range of other Deathwishes ranging from practical to outlandish. You can buy someone their first car, pay off the mortgage, or even launch your ashes in space.
Dead Island 2 is available as of April 21st on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and the Epic Games Store. The game has received mixed but positive reviews from critics with a top critic average of 75 on OpenCritic. PC Gamer rated it lower with a 55/100 and critiques the game loop for feeling “flat” but God is a Geek gives it a positive score of 8.5/10 stating it is a “gruesomely good time.” Dead Island 2 may not reinvent the wheel of zombie shooters, but most critics agree it is great at what it does have to offer. As is the case with many games, it all seems to boil down to personal preference.
