Starfield Blasts Off in September 2023
Will Bethesda’s star-explorer RPG have what it takes to stick the landing?

Bethesda has given Starfield, a space exploration RPG, an official release date on September 6, 2023. The game was originally delayed from a 2022 release, and Bethesda has been lock-lipped about many of the game’s details. In fact, the only gameplay we’ve seen of the game (originally announced in 2018) was in a polished-over 15-minute gameplay trailer.
For a reminder of Starfield’s weight for Bethesda, it is going to be the first new Bethesda universe in 25 years, making this game’s release execution critical. The game has also been in active development for around eight years at this point (if not longer), which only heightens the curiosity and frustration around longtime fans.
The game was originally anticipated to be out in Q1-Q2 2023, but the delayed fall launch date will give Bethesda the chance to showcase more Starfield materials at an exclusive Starfield Direct Bethesda-Microsoft press event on June 11, 2023.
