Dontnod's Vampyr is Being Turned into a Fox Television Series

Dontnod has secure quite a coup, announcing Vampyr, its narrative-driven action-RPG, will be getting a television series courtesy of a deal with 21st Century Fox.

Wonderland Sound & Vision and DJ2 Entertainment will be producing the Vampyr TV series. Their previous work includes supernatural, The O.C., Lethal Weapon and Nikita. Behind the scenes they’re also working on a television adaption of Dontnod’s other hot property - Life is Strange.

DONTNOD CEO Oskar Guilbert said “we believe it is a fantastic premise for a television show. This is a new and exciting way for fans of the game, as well as the uninitiated, to enter and engage with Vampyr’s rich, deep story. We cannot wait to see how the talented team at FOX21 will bring out the darkly atmospheric universe of our game into television.

Focus’ CEO Jurgen Goeldner agreed and says, “we are delighted to partner with FOX21 for the adaptation of VAMPYR into a TV series. DONTNOD has created a uniquely dark, immersive world with deep narration, which has made Vampyralready a modern video game classic. We cannot wait to see FOX21 bring all of their talent and experience in launching a TV show that will allow an even wider audience to discover the fantastic universe of Vampyr.

On paper at least, Vampyr sounds like a great fit for a television series thanks to story-heavy nature. Having the team responsible for Supernatural behind it is only going to help things too. Despite this, Dontnod is treading risky ground here. Practically all videogame TV and movie adaptations have been on the bad side of crap, so the odds aren’t exactly great. Still, something’s got to buck the trend eventually, surely?
