In Shenmue (1999), the weather in the game's Yokohama setting is based on real historical meteorological data from 1985–1986, the exact year the story takes place. Every rain, fog, or sunny day matches what actually happened there decades earlier.

Fact of the day...The sound effect for launching a Fat Man mini-nuke in Fallout 3 (and later games) is actually the lunch bell from Bethesda Softworks' real-life office cafeteria. Devs recorded it because it had that perfect ominous "ding" vibe.

Fact of the day...The devs of Metroid (1986) hid Samus Aran's gender from everyone, including Nintendo's own marketing team, so that the helmet-removal reveal at the end would shock players.

Fact of the day...In Final Fantasy Legend II (1990, Game Boy), drug dealers were originally selling opium in the story, but Nintendo's strict U.S. censorship rules forced a change. They became banana peddlers instead. The shady back-alley "drug" trade? Just exotic fruit.

Fact of the day...RollerCoaster Tycoon (1999) was almost entirely coded by one person, Chris Sawyer, and about 99% of it was written in hand-crafted x86 assembly language
