This game received great reviews and looks really amazing, I'm really happy to get it for free, but it feels unfair for the developers.

Epic wouldn’t be able to give away the game for free without the developers being ok with it. Epic probably has some sort of background deal with the development team.

Epic does pay a small amount to the Devs or Publishers , Epic also takes less cash then Steam does per sale, so it works out in the devs favor if they sell games on their store app.There is a small article here that explains it a bit Three reasons why Epic Games can give away $17.5 billion worth of games for free
