Valve is making a Standalone Version of Dota Auto Chess after Dismal Failure of Artifact

  • 92

The disaster that was Artifact seems to have taught Valve a very important lesson.

For its next game, Valve has decided to simply make its own version of fan-made Dota Auto Chess.  Dota Auto Chess is a free mode that exists within Dota 2.  It has almost 9 million players compared to like almost zero for Valve's own Artifact card game.

According to Valve,

after we played the game, roughly one billion times, it was pretty clear that we should reach out to the creators, Drodo Studio, and start a conversation about working together.

but after much discussion this is what happened,

we ended up agreeing that we’ll each build our own stand-alone version of the game, and support each other to the fullest.

So Valve is now just going to copy Dota Auto Chess and hope it doesn't bomb like Artifact.
